So then, what CDs are on my work desk at the moment?

King of Woolworths - Rediffusion
Voodoo Child - Baby Monkey
Melk - Sports
James Lavelle - Globalunderground - Romania

So, what albums do I currently recommend?

Unkle - War Stories - A great electro-rock album. I've been waiting to this album to be released for a very long time, which would normally spells disappointment. But not this time. Though this requires about 6 or 7 listens before the album can be properly appreciated.

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Volume II - Soft Classical meets haunting repetitive synth music... As the title suggest, this is Ambient music, so it is definitely not for everyone (or anytime for that matter). In my view though, there are few better albums to listen to when your at work, or on the computer in a dark room. Its not music you listen to directly. Its music that fills the room and creates a mood while you're doing other things... but I love it :-)

Groove Armada - Soundboy Rock - Good old faithful GA - these guys have not managed to put a foot wrong since I first started listening to them. (Which is more than I can say for the current Chemical Brothers offering... very disappointing indeed). This is a great Radio-friendly CD, which actually has a lot more depth than is first apparent. Its great driving music and I have become very fond of its upbeat style. That being said, there are a couple of slow tracks towards the end which are just beautiful.

Zwan - Mary Star of the Sea - I've always loved The Smashing Pumpkins. They were the soundtrack to my adolescent life. After the pumpkins, Billy moved on to form Zwan... band that sounds like pumpkins, but is a lot more upbeat and positive... its almost as though Billy's music is evolving to meet my music taste over time :-)

Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth - I cant deny the fact that I live the occasional bit of 'heavy'. This is a great 'driven' album with plenty of energy. That being said, the highlights of any NIN album are the quiet tracks. On this album, the best track is without doubt the slow and quiet "Right where it Belongs"... it took me about 5 listens to begin to appreciate that track... but now it is a firm favourite. It has slowly been working its way up on my last.fm charts here.

That is all for now.

All the best,

aussiepoida

PS: Rest assured that I have formatted this post properly... but for some reason, LJ is showing it as a big block of text, which I hate.

PSS: Things appear to be fixed now. I will leave the 'subject' as it is, just for documentation reasons. For some reason the 'Disable auto-formating' option was checked in the 'post to LJ' section.. I dont know why.. must have something to do with the recent LJ update. Cheers

I like them a lot, though I have no desire to see them live. If they did an acoustic set I would be very interested though.
