This is me, using xjournal for the first time :-) I downloaded it about a week ago, just see if it would result in me posting more regularly.... this has not happened, but I am quite content with my current output.
So, what do I think of this little program? Well, it feels like I'm writing an email to myself, rather than writing to my journal... I could class that as a negative... it feels removed from my usual livejournal experience, but then I've only been using lj for a month, so how can I even justify making such a claim?! Either way, I shall, for the moment, continue to use it.
I quietly wish there was an option to make this text-box I'm writing into a little more 'earthy'... It just feels a little too clean.. clinical... not very personal at all... but can that really be said about the lj web-based posting system.. I guess not :-)
Today is Australia Day!!!!!!!! Tracy and I are among the most patriotic people I know, even though we tend to keep it to ourselves. Whenever I think about expressing my love for this country more openly, I get a horrible image of becoming one of them.
That being said, I am of the opinion that Australian Patriotism is largely grounded in reality. Especially when compared to the over-the-top, cult-like enthusiasm that our friends across the Pacific exhibit. I bring to your attention, this. Now, patriotism to me has always been something that should remain 'within' its country, with the exception of sporting events (IF, ELSE IF, END IF). If patriotism is used, with force, overseas - does it not also become a form of terrorism? I do wonder.
I appear to have gone off-topic. Lets pull it back... Today is Australia Day. I am happy, and I will now sing.... join me if you like
Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in Nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia fair!"
Beneath our radiant Southern Cross,
We'll toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To advance Australia fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing
"Advance Australia fair!"
As (almost) always, Trace and I will be heading down to the foreshore to view the Australia Day Fireworks, which is the biggest fireworks display in the country. Though, in truth, after the Perth Lord Mayor's arrogant comment about Fremantle's planed fireworks, I'm half considering going to Freo instead. He said that "Comparing Fremantle's proposed Australia Day cracker show to Lotterywest Skyworks is like comparing the City of Fremantle to the City of Perth – it’s second rate". What an Asshole. To take the piss out of the fireworks is one thing, but to attack the whole city! Silly man.
I might post something again later, since I feel I have much more to rant on about, but have run out of time.
Cheers & God bless Australia
