It appears to be mid August already. As always, I am lagging behind with my journal. Nothing unusual about that I guess.

Its been a pretty good few weeks actually. As mentioned in my previous post, I have moved back to Student Compliance. The international students are certainly keeping us busy at the moment, but that's the way I like it.... though truth be told, Citizenship was a lot more demanding. There we used to see about 100 people a day (not each, mind you) with each client requiring between 10-45 min of time... and there is always someone in the cue. That being said, Student Compliance is much more specialised, and I'm finding myself having to analyse legislation a lot more. Its actually quite interesting to see how different the Citizenship and Migration Acts are...I'm referring simply to the way they are written. No doubt my mind will switch back into migration mode this week.

Karaoke has taken place a couple of times in recent weeks. It was Blake's suggestion, made over a coffee in Mt Lawley with Lombardi and Markus, which lead to this, and I have no regrets :-) It was actually a lot more fun that I thought it would be.... even with the limited English song selection on hand. While 'Anarchy in the UK' by The Sex Pistols, and 'Come as you are' by Nirvana provided moments of machoness, those moments were quickly washed away with servings of 'Nothing compares 2 U' by Sinéad O'Connor and 'Without you' by Mariah Carey. On the most recent occasion, Markus and I belted out 'Bed of Roses' by Bon Jovi.... it was spectacular!

The second round of Karaoke last night rounded off a 24-hour period of activity, designed to see Blake off to South Korea. The lucky bastard has won himself the right to work there for the foreseeable future. I predict he'll stay there for three years, but I guess we'll see. I think he'll have a much easier time controlling the Korean school kids, compared to the, angst-ridden, self absorbed Brat Camp contestants that are currently roaming the streets of Perth. Blake leaves on Tuesday. I'm sure the reality will set in when I'm sitting at home bored, while Trace is at work in the evening. While I am certainly not eager to see him leave, I am looking forward to reading his journal updates from Korea.... as long as they are not written in Korean, of course. In the meantime, I have become godfather to his DVD collection... his, sometimes confused taste, pleases both Tracy and I.

The other actives were:

* Enjoyed a fantastic dinner, and a couple of drinks at the Whale + Ale. We all loved our meals.
* Watching the remaining two thirds of King of Kong
* Watched a episode of South Park and American Dad
* Enjoyed a drive down to Freo
* Walked around the Uni of Notre Dame area and the Round House
* Had a beer and some macadamia nuts at Little Creatures: The Loft
* Ate a fantastic burger at Flipside
* Had a lovely drive all the way up the coast (you have love West Coast Highway)
* Played our version of sport at the park close to my place. We lasted about 15 min.
* Watched a never before seen episode (I hadnt see it, at least) of Ren and Stimpy - I'm looking forward to seeing more.
* Had dinner at Poppo's (Korean) on Barrack St... we actually wanted to eat at Levant Cuisine (Lebanese)
* Had another coffee in Mt Lawley.
* Karaoke (as per above)
* Not much more
* Blake will probably deny this, but we all noticed his not so subtle attempts to compress Saturday evening's events in order for him to attend another friends going away party afterwards. Crazy man :-)

Behold some photos!I know I should use a cut for this, but I just dont like them :-)

Its mother's Birthday in a couple of weeks. Dad has made some nice arrangements (which I will not utter here... he would kill me if I let the cat out of the bag). I will probably piggy-back my gift on-top of his in some form... unless I can think of something decent between now and then.

On another topic - As a result of some anonymous person disagreeing with my basic view that racists are assholes, I have disabled anonymous comments. I'm not happy about it - especially since this a journal, and not a blog. I write this journal for myself, my family, and my friends around the world. Feel free to have a look at the post. - 23 January 2007. The anonymous person clearly doesn't like what I have to say. He pretty opinionated... perhaps he/she should start a blog.

Trace and I managed to get a lot of painting done. Only one more room remains - the Guest Bedroom.... it will get done within the next three weeks... that is my aim. The feature wall in the bedroom looks pretty decent, and the media room is looking more and more complete. If only there was a quick way to hide away the many many cables and wires that are required to run the damn thing.

Also - I've made up my mind about the upcoming State election. I don't want to give too much away, but lets just say that if it wasn't for the events of the last few weeks, I would have voted Labor for the first time ever. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Cheers
